A PLAY all about the ticking clock of time and the stories that stretch across the years is being shown at the Lyric Theatre in Bridport at 8pm on Saturday.
Almost Heaven is set in a sunny garden, enveloped by birdsong, where a man and a woman swap stories. They share a past – something unspoken, unresolved and unrequited.
They begin at the beginning, with flood myths from around the world but the man has a specific story he needs to tell: Nimrod and the Tower of Babel.
Time is running out for this man and between them they must construct their story before the day is done.
Almost Heaven comes courtesy of the Multi Story Theatre Company.
Thirteen years ago, Gill Nathanson from the company met the Lyric’s director McCretton on the Canadian fringe festival circuit.
“We were in Winnipeg”, said Gill, “I remember so clearly going to see Niki's one woman play and being blown away by it – I can’t believe it’s 13 years ago”.
Gill and her Multi Story associate Bill Buffery have also performed at Bridport Arts Centre with Orchard Theatre Company and, more recently, with their own company, Multi Story.
Last year the company squeezed their hi-tech performance of their last production Every Mother's Son into the cafe area at Bridport Arts Centre. "
Tickets are available in advance from the Bridport Arts Centre or on the door of the Lyric from 7.30pm on the night of the show.
