CHOIR Dorset for Singing performed a concert at All Saints Church on Portland to help raise money for the Samaritans Dorset.

The concert featured songs including Lean on Me, the Beach Boys classic Get Around, Downtown and Waterloo.

In the second half, members of the choir performed solos and duets including a newly formed duo act 'Class of Two' with Ed Hintze and Julie Heffell.

£200 was raise for the Samaritans of Dorset at Weymouth thanks to the generosity of the church and its supporters.

Choir director Ed Hintze said: "Dorset for Singing have very busy schedule for the remainder of the term and will be visiting Canterbury next weekend to perform a special concert in collaboration with the Lemon Zingers."

The Canterbury choir is directed by Lemon Otter, a popular teacher from Weymouth who now lives and works in Canterbury.

Dorset for Singing will then be making several appearances around Weymouth and Dorchester at the Race for Life, Kingston Maurward, Fayre in the Square in Weymouth, St Andrew's garden party and the 'Out Loud' music event in Weymouth town centre.

Ed added: "The choir just keeps gaining momentum, we have so many members now who give up their time for great causes, it's overwhelming.

"I could never have imagined when we started this seven years ago that we would have become so well known.

"I come away from rehearsals and concerts so uplifted, I can understand why singing is such an important part in our members' lives'.

"It's great that the choir buy into the ethos of singing purely for enjoyment, yes, we make the odd mistake, me more than ever, but everyone keeps smiling and I'm proud to regard many members as close friends."
