POPULAR comedian Richard Herring is bringing his new stand-up show to West Dorset.
Richard Herring’s Lord of the Dance Settee with support from Gareth Richards is at the Bridport Electric Palace on June 11.
After covering weighty issues like death, love, religion and spam javelins, Herring is in a frivolous mood with this show.
It examines whether the term 'cool comedian' is an oxymoron, bouncing joyously on the sofa and how Herring's whole career is a failed attempt to top a piece of visual slapstick comedy he came up with at sixteen.
This writer and comedian’s early work includes the comedy double act Lee and Herring, with Stewart Lee, who performed in front of a sell-out audience at the Electric Palace last month. The British Theatre Guide describes Herring as “one of the leading hidden masters of modern British comedy".
He is celebrated for concept-led, one-person ,live stand-up shows.
Since 2004, Herring has created a new show every year: developing them at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, touring them extensively throughout the year, and recording the final performance for DVD.
His latest show, Lord of the Dance Settee is his eleventh consecutive stand-up show in 11 years.
Gareth Richards, who is supporting Herring, was a star turn at one of the Electric Palace’s monthly comedy network nights.
His hilarious stand-up, silly jokes and gorgeously low-key comedy songs have made him an instant favourite on the comedy circuit.
Gareth has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, Live at the Electric (BBC3) and in January performed live on Radio 1.
He co-hosted Frank Skinner’s Sony award-winning Absolute Radio show for two years and is currently supporting Frank on his 2014 tour.
Doors open at 7.15pm for an 8.15pm start.
