AN ACCLAIMED pianist will perform twice in West Dorset next week in a series of concerts in the south west.

Alexander Ullman will take to the stage at Bridport Arts Centre and The Hub, Lyme Regis in the latest events organised by Concerts in the West.

The 24-year-old performer was born in London and his music studies include the Purcell School of Music with William Fong, followed by the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

He has also studied with Elisso Virsaladze at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole in Florence.

Alexander is currently completing his masters degree in performance at the Royal College of Music with Ian Jones and Dmitri Alexeev.

He has been persuaded to perform in Dorset by founder and director of Concerts in the West, Catherine Hodgson.

Catherine said: "I am so pleased that our audiences will have the opportunity to hear Alexander in action.

"He plays beautifully and consequently is already booked to play around the world. He communicates music brilliantly and has technical finesse as well as being able to capture every nuance."

Alongside his studies, Alexander has won many awards including first prize at the international competition in Memoriam Ferenc Liszt in 2011, the Lagny-sur-Marne International Competition in 2013, the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition in 2012 and second prize at the Isidor Bajic Memorial International Competition in 2014.

As a soloist Alexander has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New Jersey and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Oxford Philomusica, Southbank Sinfonia and Budapest Radio Orchestras. He has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio France and MDR Classic.

Alexander will perform works by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky (Snowdrops), Debussy and Shchedrin at a coffee concert between 11am and 12pm at Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, June 5. He will then take to the stage at The Hub on Saturday, June 6 at 7.30pm.
