LOCAL artists will be commissioned to produce work for a new exhibition following a grant for Arts Council England.
Home in Bridport has also gained the backing of Bridport Town Council - with work set to be displayed this autumn.
Organisers hope Democracy in Bridport 2015 will stimulate discussions, ideas and actions
The project will be composed of an exhibition in the Bridport Arts Centre cafe and corridor during September and October, along with a larger exhibition in the Town Hall during the first half of October.
During the autumn, there will be performances of a newly choreographed contemporary dance piece, a newly written and composed puppet play and of a multimedia theatre piece. Three photo-essays about different aspects of the town have been commissioned; two newly commissioned large-scale paintings will be in the exhibition serving as designs for tapestries; and a faux stained glass window to be temporarily installed in the town hall.
Collaborative creative work will be undertaken with students and pupils from Sir John Colfox Academy and St Mary’s School, as well as work with older citizens of the town. In addition there will be workshops offered to open discussions about the nature of democracy.
Organisers would like to hear from people of all ages who have ideas or would like to participate and contribute as voluntary artists, or in any other way.
