MUSIC lovers are in for a treat with a feast of glorious music lined up for the Wessex Festival 2015.

The festival runs from August 13 to 16 and comprises of an eclectic mix of concerts and choral services in six Dorset churches, a Folk Night in Wimborne and two rambles near Kingston Lacy.

The opening concert, on Thursday, 13 August, will be in St Martin’s Church, Bryanston. This beautiful church, with views of the river Stour and open countryside is the perfect setting for English Serenade.

The concert includes Vaughan Williams’ masterpiece The Lark Ascending – voted the most popular piece of classical music in the 2014 Classic FM’s Hall of Fame.

The soloist will be Christina Scott, Head of Strings at Bryanston School.

There will be three choral items in the concert including Requiem: Light Everlasting by Festival Director David Everett

On the following night Blandford’s Georgian Parish Church is the venue for a concert by The Brunel String Quartet.

The quartet will perform an enticing programme of music by Haydn, Warlock, Karl Jenkins and Vaughan Williams.

The highlight promises to be Finzi’s By Footpath and Stile in which baritone Gareth Jones joins the quartet for a rare performance of this Thomas Hardy song cycle.

The final concert on Saturday August 15 will be in the fantastic surroundings of Wimborne Minster.

This concert of popular music will include Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and Handel’s Zadok the Priest.

The soloist in the Vivaldi will be Fiona McKinley, Head of Strings at Canford School.

Kingston Lacy Church will be the venue for two afternoon Young Artists Recitals by talented local musicians, the churches in Wimborne St Giles and Child Okeford will host two Eucharists, and there will be a Festival Choral Evensong in Wimborne Minster on Sunday 16 August, followed by a relaxed evening in The White Hart pub, a minute or two from the Minster for an evening of Folk music performed by talented local musicians.
