SCORES of families turned out for a great line-up of pop music at Boscombe Beach on Friday night.

Against the backdrop of the sun setting over Boscombe Pier, hundreds of people watched Sarah Harding, Fuse ODG, Alesha Dixon, Scouting for Girls and Lawson step up to the stage and belt out some tunes.

There was something for everyone at the event, with fun dancing pop and crooning love songs and a few covers thrown in for the parents and grandparents to sing along to.

Sarah Harding, one fifth of the same female supergroup that boasts Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Girls Aloud, was the first star in the evening's line-up. She was fun, she can sing, but I'm afraid that it was hit and miss for me. Her version of Love Machine, normally sung with her fellow four band mates, just wasn't the same.

Fuse ODG was up next, telling the audience that he was representing Africa at the event. His songs were upbeat and he looked like he was having a great time onstage.

Lawson, the final act of the night, were the teen audience members' favourites, with audible screams as the boys came onto the stage and wooed the ladies with their pop tunes.

However, for me, the best acts of the night were Alesha Dixon and then Scouting for Girls.

Alesha Dixon is a fun, fierce female when she's on the Britain's Got Talent judging panel and when put on the stage in Boscombe, she can also make a crowd fall in love with her. How?

By inviting members of the audience, of all ages, to join her on stage and dance to her tracks. Cue the most fun stage appearance of the night as Alesha's backing dancers get tiny children to twirl around onstage, teens to show off their best moves and other audiences members to just enjoy the fun of the event. She also sang a song from the 90s pop group that she was part of, Misteeq, which went down a storm.

Finally, a hat tip to Scouting for Girls, who despite being out of the public eye for a few years, proved as popular as ever. Their winning formula is keyboard heavy songs with nice lyrics that are perfect for sticking in your head and then singing along to yourself later. Except at this event, there were hundreds of people to sing along with and it was a great introduction to their music for the younger children.

It was the epitome of a family fun night of music, which ended in a beautiful fireworks display for everybody to enjoy.
