A WEEK of arty fun will be on offer for youngsters in Bridport this month.

The Big Draw will take place at Bridport Arts Centre from Wednesday (7) until Friday, October 16.

The events are being organised as part of a national campaign for drawing, held all across the country during October. Organisers want to get everyone drawing, because it has been shown that drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate - regardless of age and ability.

This month, the event is being embraced by staff at Bridport Arts Centre, who will transform their gallery space. There will be a library lounge where visitors can sit, relax and perhaps discover a new story. With the support of Dorset Library Services, Bridport Arts Centre is able to provide a selection of well known children's books for keen readers to lose themselves in.

Exhibitions and participation officer at Bridport Arts Centre, Megan Dunford, said: "There's going to be loads of entertainment in the gallery this October, all aimed at getting people drawing.

"Drawing is such a rewarding and fulfilling part of life and we hope you'll join us for the fun week of activities."

The activities are aimed at adults and children who are interested in developing their drawing and story telling skills.

On Wednesday (7), Richard Toft's Automatic Painting Machine will be in action between 10.30am and 12pm in the Bridport Arts Centre forecourt. The event is suitable for all ages and will take place in the Allsop Gallery if it rains.

Also on Wednesday, an aerodynamic drawing workshop will take place in Bucky Doo Square from 3pm until 5pm. The event is suitable fro those aged between five and 11 years old.

Next Thursday (8), those aged 16 and above can develop storytelling skills with an experimental drawing workshop by Hester Scoffield. The event takes place between 5pm and 7pm and booking is essential from Bridport Arts centre.

On the same day, the film Friday will be screened at 7.30pm. The movie is a biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channelled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work.
