A LYME Regis ukulele band shared the spoils at a battle of the bands competition.

The Lyme Luggers took part in the ukulele bands competition in Weymouth at the weekend, finishing in joint top place.

The competition had two sections - one for novice bands who had been playing for less than a year and one for more experienced players.

The competition was judged by Bournemouth based professional ukulele band, The Mother Ukers, who also ran a workshop prior to the main event.

All the bands taking part had to play three songs which ideally should showcase their abilities and versatility.

In a really close contest, The Lyme Luggers finished joint top with Swanage Ukuladies. The Lyme group played The Old Bazaar in Cairo, Stray Cay Strut Medley and It's a Heartache.

Bridport group, The Wookers, won the novice award.

This month, The Luggers will celebrate their second anniversary with their annual general meeting and an open mic night, when group members can show off their individual skills.

The Luggers were formed in October 2013 by Paul Burnage and Paul Grinter.

The group meets most Thursdays in the centre of Lyme Regis, usually at the Masonic Hall along Broad Street between 7pm and 9pm.
