A PUPPET master will bring a special show to Bridport this month.

Matthew Robins will present his critically-acclaimed artistry to The Lyric - with performances for both adults and children.

The Matthew Robins Show will include a chance to work with the artist to create exquisite shadow puppets.

Performing live with puppets and music, the Matthew Robins Show is a collection of songs, short stories, shadow puppets, home-made animations, made-up games, adventures and competitive audience puppet-making.

Matthew tells visual stories about animals, monsters, insects, love, the ocean and death, and there will be some festive stories too.

It’s a bit like a one-man variety show but with a band as well. Come and hear about Flyboy, who is half boy and half fly, and his friend Mothboy, Evaporina, the sad story of the Wicker Cat, Walter Knitty, and many others - including some new songs written especially for this show.

In the last few years they group have performed at the Barbican, the National Theatre, Tate Modern and Tate Britain, the Howard Assembly Room for Opera North, the De La Warr Pavilion, in a horse-box in Sherwood Forest, and most recently at the Suspense Puppetry Festival.

Matthew has constructed shows for the National Theatre, the Barbican and the Unicorn Theatre, and an installation of his work is on permanent display at the Science Museum in London.

The Lyric's artistic director Niki McCretton, said: “Matthew Robins is a wonderful artist and musician from Cornwall that we have wanted to bring to the Lyric for some time.

"We are delighted he's coming to show Bridport audiences his fabulous work this Christmas.”

The show is suitable for adults and children aged eight years and older. Brave younger children are also welcome with their families.

Performances will take place at 8pm on Friday, December 18 and at 4pm and 8pm on Saturday, December 19.
