A JAZZ singer will take to the stage in Bridport tomorrow (11) night - bringing her love of languages to west Dorset.

Annika Skoogh will sing as part of the Jazz Cafe programme, with her vocal performance accompanied by pianist Philip Clouts.

Born in South America and raised in Sweden, Annika grew up singing in churches and school choirs from a young age. It was not until she moved to England that she started to perform with local jazz, soul and funk bands - and has recently formed her own musical groups.

Annika is a self taught professional singer and although she has no formal musical training, she demonstrates a skilful ability to interpret songs with an effortless natural style.

Whilst jazz is her primary focus, Annika also sings Latin, soul, funk, blues and gospel and commits to each song and style with great passion and energy.

With her love of languages, multilingual Annika adds another dimension to her performances by sometimes singing jazz songs in different languages.

Annika’s passion for music and performance has led to gigs at the Plymouth Barbican International Jazz and Blues Festival, Teignmouth Jazz Festival, Bude Jazz Festival, Dartmouth Music Festival and many more. Highlights have included singing alongside Buster Cooper and Art Baron, former members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, with the 9 piece band Ellingtonia at the International Duke Ellington Festival in London as well as singing with the legendary Kathy Stobart and singing for MP Ben Bradshaw at his birthday party by special request.

The performance will take place at 9pm on Friday. For more information, please call 01308 424204.
