FIND out whether the streets are paved with gold when a traditional pantomime continues on stage in Bridport this week.

Bridport Pantomime Players present Dick Whittington at the Electric Palace until Saturday February 6.

This year, Amy Wheatley plays the eponymous hero who travels to London to seek fame and fortune believing the streets to be paved with gold.

On the way he befriends Tommy the Cat, a super-duper rat catcher played by Sarah Pitcher, and, once in London, falls in love with the lovely Alice, played by Laura Dunford.

Alice is the daughter of the very important Alderman Fitzwarren (Greg Horton) who gives Dick a job.

All seems well, but evil is afoot in the guise of King Rat (Teresa Grinter) who, with the help of two gullible sailors, Cod and Skate (Sue Farrant and Hätti Amos), makes sure Dick is disgraced.

Dame Sarah Suet (Jess Ives) ably caters for the needs of everyone whilst Idle Jack (Emily Shoemark) lives up to the word Idle.

After a contrived ship wreck, everyone is washed up on the shores of Morocco where the Sultan (Sarah Light) and his Wazir (Jo Aisthorpe) believe themselves to rule the land.

All ends well as all good pantomimes should, but not without the help of Fairy Bow-Bells (Alice Tuck) who takes up her wand to make the magic.

Dick Whittington is showing at the Electric Palace at 7.30pm from today (4) until Saturday.

There will be a matinee performance today at 1.30pm and Saturday February 6 at 2pm.
