FILM fans are in for a treat when internationally acclaimed musician Joe Stilgoe takes his tour to Dorchester on Friday November 25.

Songs On Film, a tribute to 100 years of cinema in the UK, brings the magic of the movies to the Corn Exchange.

Joe is known for his appearances on BBC Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night: Fabulous Films of the Fifties and will be a presenter on BBC Young Musician Of The Year on May 13.

The performer and entertainer also recently performed at the 2016 Olivier Awards.

A consistent sell-out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Joe and his remarkable trio of musicians are brining their tribute to 100 years of cinema to venues across the UK.

Joe said: “It was a wonderful and humbling experience to perform at the Royal Opera House with past winners at the 2016 Olivier Awards.

"As well as songwriting assignments for Samantha Barks and a new West End play, recording a new album, and trying to convince my one-year-old daughter that playing the piano is a better thing to do than watching Peppa Pig, the rest of my year will be spent taking my show Songs On Film around the country for its debut UK tour.

"I've tried to make this show feel like the best cinema trip there ever was, and for film geeks like me it's a chance to spot every reference, while for normal people it will be a great ride through all the greatest musical moments put to film.”

The show pays tribute to iconic music from movies, as self-confessed film buff Joe adds his own innovative and stylish orchestrations to the most memorable moments in cinematic history.

A collision of music, improvisation and comedy, Songs on Film takes you from Hollywood’s golden age to the classic films of the 80s, through to the contemporary work of Tarantino, the Coen Brothers and Pixar, in a show of virtuosic musicianship, breath-taking theatricality and wit.

This is a show which challenges the notion of what a jazz-based trio can achieve in live performance – playing like demons and singing like angels, easily covering the myriad of different genres that the world of film offers.

Evoking the nostalgia of cinema from his childhood, while subverting and playing around with well-known classics, Stilgoe puts his own spin on each song, and this unique show will leave you inspired, enthralled and entertained.
