WHEN we are not busy being a tourist guide for Dorset and suggesting the best of Bridport and beaches to comedian Fred MacAulay, we manage to squeeze in a few questions for him ahead of his stand-up tour Twenty Sixteen coming to town tomorrow night.

He’s currently in London on tour with his wife who has come along for the fun ride. Coming to Bridport it’ll be the furthest south the Scottish comedian has been.

Fred is one of Scotland’s best loved comedians and it’s easy to see why.

His stand-up material clicks with audiences as he shares his hilarious and charming take on home life.

Fred, who is on stage at Bridport Arts Centre tomorrow night said: “Talking about family stuff is always my favourite routine, it resonates with the audience.

“I have older children who are all grown up now and when they left home my wife and I went out and got dogs, and they are great social material!”

For his current tour Fred will be humorously talking about sport, celebrities, the environment and more rarely for his stand-up shows he said, politics.

Famous for his 18 years spent on air as a presenter on BBC Radio Scotland, Fred said: “Most people in England will know me from The News Quiz which I did for 18 years.

“With the referendum coming up soon and with all the experience I had with the Scottish referendum there’s a wee bit of politics in the show.”

The Bridport leg of the tour will be one of the last for the Twenty Sixteen shows, excitingly giving the audience an exclusive sneak glimpse into what they can expect for Fred’s next show.

Fred said: “Already I’m starting to think about my next show which I’m calling Life.

“When people ask you ‘how’s life?’, it’s so much more than the one word answer ‘fine’ which we reply.

“Bridport will get a first airing of the new material. I realised that after 27 years in stand-up there’s no bigger topic than life.

“We’re looking forward to coming to Bridport, we always like to get to know the places that I’m playing.”

n Fred MacAualay is bringing Twenty Sixteen to Bridport Arts Centre tomorrow, April 29 at 8pm.
