THERE are two big events taking place this weekend; one celebrating human willpower and the other celebrating local producers.

And there's plenty more to whet your whistle too...

*FINGERS crossed for good weather for an event celebrating everything that's great about Dorset.

The Spring Tide Food Festival will be held at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock, near Bridport, tomorrow and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

This spectacular outdoor food event offers you the chance to meet and buy from the hugely talented local producers who will be on hand to show off Dorset produce at its very best.

Expect to find everything on the shopping list from fresh fish and local meat, artisan bread, cheeses and a selection of locally made beer and cider. You'll also find a selection of quality products from local craftsmen and artists.

*CHEER on a sea of pink as women take part in the Race for Life in Dorchester on Sunday.

The 5km race begins at 11am as the participants run or walk around a challenging Kingston Maurward course, all in aid of cancer causes.

*A CHARITY which raises funds for small local causes is holding a barn dance fundraiser tomorrow from 6pm.

The Hangers Heroes Barn Dance is at West Fleet Holiday Farm in Fleet, near Weymouth.

Tickets cost £10 for adults or £6 for children under 15. Call 01305 784995 for tickets.

*FIND out more about Lawrence of Arabia with a special Open Day at Wareham Library today from 10am to 4pm.

There will be an opportunity to view the collection of T.E. Lawrence books, journals and clippings.

*PONDER what happens when we see our parents as flawed human beings in a cerebral play at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Sunday from 8pm.

Gods Are Fallen And All Safety Gone is an intimate and funny exploration of a mother and daughter relationship with two male actors exploring the fascinating relationship dynamic of a thirty-something daughter and her ageing mother.

This play is a lifetime of conversations, condensed into one hour. Contact Dorchester Arts for tickets.

*EVER wondered what makes on of the country's most popular markets?

Find out with a trip to Bridport Market tomorrow between 9am and 3pm.

The town came third in the BBC Countryfile competition for the nation's favourite market town and prides itself on its popular traditional street market.

*HAVE a hullabaloo on a heathland.

Come along to Knoll Beach, Studland Bay and discover more about the surrounding heathland and the organisations that help look after it on Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
