PORTLAND CASTLE
Combine some fascinating history with a stunning coastal backdrop on this great day out.
This stout little castle was one of Henry VIII’s finest coastal forts and was built in the early 1540s to protect against French and Spanish invasion.

Enjoy stunning sea views from the gun platforms, and get close to the powerful cannons. There is also a contemporary heritage garden, a Tudor kitchen and the Captain's Tearoom for cakes, sandwiches and snacks.
The castle, at Castletown, is open daily from 10am to 6pm.
