A SUMMER gala event will be held at Kingston Lacy on Thursday July 7 to raise money for the Bankes Archive Project
The archive tells the stories of the Bankes family, but also of the buildings, landscapes and the thousands of people who lived and worked on the Kingston Lacy estate over hundreds of years.
The collection includes the work of William John Bankes, the most prominent of the family, a friend of Byron, MP and collector of repute.
As part of the gala, arranged by the Dorset Archives Trust, the house will be open for special out of hours access and guests are invited to hear a talk on the background and progress of the Bankes Archive Project –which is unearthing fascinating tales from amongst the 850 boxes of archives bequeathed by the Bankes family and now held at Dorset History Centre.
The gala begins at 6pm. Tickets cost £20 each with funds going to support the project. Reserve your ticket by emailing enquiries@dorsetarchivestrust.org or calling 01305 228945.
