YOU only need to ask this year’s Glastonbury goers to find out that a festival tends to involve long toilet queues, shoddily assembled sleeping arrangements, and an incomprehensible amount of mud.

But on July 2, B Sharp’s Big Mix Festival looks to break this tradition.

It promises to provide the opportunity to hear quality local musicians without requiring you to march through fields of waterlogged marshes.

Taking place at the Marine Theatre, Theatre Square and Gun Cliff Walk in Lyme Regis, the event offers family friendly fun from 2pm until 1am, with attractions ranging from great music to fire breathing.

Between 2pm and 6pm, the festival takes place outside the Marine Theatre.

The outdoor event boasts an array of local young musical talent, including members of the charity’s weekly sessions in Lyme Regis. During the afternoon there will be an acoustic area with guest musicians.

A line-up showcasing the best of the South West includes performances from B Sharp’s Hub Jammers, mesmerising folk band Wildwood Kin and Bridport’s Gris-de-Lin.

DJ Will Lister, from Lyme Regis, has just released his debut record Phantom EP, and is a product of B Sharp’s weekly sessions.

Will said: “B Sharp undoubtedly helped me with my development as a musician.

“It’s provided me with skills that I wouldn’t be able to obtain anywhere else, and it’s a melting pot of talent from around the county.”

He added: “Having been a part of B Sharp since a very young age, I’m honoured to be asked back to play and take part. The event is always great fun, and a very special day.”The day will also include festival face painting, a skate event, food by The Galley Cafe and Dottie’s Kitchen, and the launch of a number of social enterprise ventures such as young entrepreneur Willow Ray’s cake making and decorating business.

Ray said: “It’s such a big opportunity for me to launch my business and get my name out there and I’m very excited.

“I think the Big Mix is such a fun day for local people to celebrate food, arts and music, and it’s great for the community.”

At 6pm, the festival heads inside the Marine Theatre, with a line-up sure to keep feet moving until its conclusion at 1am.

Meanwhile, Lyme Regis’ favourites Papa Le Gal will be headlining the festival, bringing their indefinably joyful genre back to the South Coast.

By bringing together this eclectic musical mix, the festival allows the local area to show off the diverse collection of excellent artists that it has to offer.

Even the Jurassic Coast’s most musically minded are sure to be kept entertained through to the early hours of the morning.

Admission into the festival site is free, but donations to support the local music charity, B Sharp, are welcomed.
