MAIDEN CASTLE, DORCHESTER
MARCH along the ramparts of this ancient earthwork - the largest Iron Age hillfort in Europe.
The hillfort, which can be accessed from Maiden Castle Road in Dorchester, has plenty of parking and is perfect for a bracing weekend walk.
Although there's a bit of a climb to get to the top, once you reach the summit the view is staggering with wonderful views of Dorchester and Poundbury.
It is thought that the construction of Maiden Castle began around 3000 BC and flint tools and other objects dating from that time have been found.
The present hill fort as we see it today, was started during the Iron Age.
The hillfort is open year round and entry is free.
