LIKE the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, the Budapest Café Orchestra exceed all expectations in its mission to entertain.
The immense skill and profound musicianship of the ensemble provides for an electrifying and entertaining show and the next stop for the band is Dorchester Corn Exchange on Friday July 22, at 8pm.
Led by jazz violin superstar Christian Garrick, the orchestra plays traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music from across the Balkans and Russia.
Mournful Klezmer melodies, raucous Romanian Doinas and Hungarian Czadas, alongside beautiful ballads, such as the theme to Schindler’s List are all encountered.
Evoking vivid images of Tzigane fiddle maestros and Budapest café life, this show is good enough to make you want to book a holiday down the Danube.
Exemplary accordionist Eddie Hession has accompanied the likes of Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras. Christian Garrick is one of Europe’s most celebrated jazz violinists while Adrian Zolotuhin is the Russian representative on domra, balalaika and guitar.
Veteran bass-man Kelly Cantlon is a former Vagabond, of Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, and chief orchestra charity-clothing expert.
Expect surprises, diversions and adventures along the way.
