AN imaginative physical theatre adaptation of an acclaimed novel is exploring the themes of evil, punishment and redemption in a powerful play.

Pharmacy is presenting an adaptation of US author Rene Denfield’s The Enchanted at the Lyric Theatre in Bridport on Wednesday July 27 for two performances at 2pm and 8pm.

Are monsters born or are they created? A mute prisoner sits on death row in a maximum-security prison. He watches and he listens, and he wonders – how do we stop men like me from happening?

Jo Treves secured the rights to adapt The Enchanted and perform it at the Edinburgh Fringe after reading the novel and realising what a powerful theatrical piece it could be.

Connie Treves was keen to direct, building on her extensive experience of directing plays at Oxford University.

The cast of The Enchanted have come from a variety of backgrounds, and some from Bridport, including Marina Renee-Cemmick and Martha Treves.

Connie, Martha and Marina have all had years of training under the expert eye of Niki McCretton, whose unique style of physical theatre and dance has been a strong influence. This is an open rehearsal before the company performs at Edinburgh Festival.
