IT will be Elementary, my dear Watson, to visit Athelhampton House and Gardens near Dorchester next month.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company is putting on an open air performance of Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles on Friday August 19.

Adapted from Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel by Laura Turner, the play will begin at 7.30pm and people are invited to come and picnic in the scenic grounds of the 15th century manor house.

On the lonely wasteland of the desolate Devon moors, something evil is afoot.

When death stalks the Baskerville family, legend and superstition collide with the most heinous of crimes.

On the moor nobody is safe, not even the bravest of men. Join Chapterhouse to meet the world’s most famous of detectives, Sherlock Holmes himself, as he is called upon to solve the greatest mystery of all time...that of the Hound of the Baskervilles.

This is the second time that Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles is touring with Chapterhouse. The company’s first production of this show in 2013 was such a big success that it began somewhat of a tradition in Sherlock Holmes adaptations.

Since then they have also toured brand new productions of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (2014) and The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes (2015). Now, Chapterhouse are giving audiences a second chance to see this stunning adaptation of Doyle’s most haunting mystery.

Director Bryony Tebbutt said: “I'm a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories, and am thrilled to be staging probably the most well-known of all Conan Doyle's collection.

"I want to bring back the excitement and thrill of the mystery, with an air of classic Sherlock.”

Bring a picnic and your best detective skills for an unforgettable evening of mystery, suspense and theatre under the stars.
