FOLK music fans in Dorchester are in for a double treat this month.

On Saturday Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston will be taking to the stage at the Corn Exchange and following in their footsteps on Friday, September 30 will be the Edinburgh-based string band Southern Tenant Folk Union.

Miranda Sykes is best known as a member of Show of Hands and with Rex Preston specialises in contemporary and narrative songs.

The result of their collaboration is described as a ‘wonderful new musical experience, especially when experienced live’.

The six musicians of Southern Tenant Folk Union are returning to Dorchester after a sell out show in the county town three years ago.

They will be returning with material from their new album Join Forces, which was written following the May 2015 general election result and then recorded in June and July this year amidst a quickly changing political landscape.

Dorchester Arts artistic director Mark Tattersall said: “Folk is always an important part of our musical offer, and this month we are delighted to be presenting two great talents from the folk scene.

“Whatever your favourite style, come along and enjoy two evenings of sheer talent.”

Both events start at 8pm, with tickets and information available on 01305 266926 or online at dorchesterarts.org.uk
