A PLAY about a mix-up in a Royal nursery is set to delight young audiences in Bridport.

The open-air production will mean that families can bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of theatre on Thursday, August 17, 2pm at The Hyde Residential Gardens, Walditch, near Bridport.

Folksy Theatre will be bringing ‘The Princess and The Pig’ to life – it is adapted from the book by Jonathan Emmett.

The theatre company said the play is about a dreadful mix-up in the royal nursery. Priscilla the princess has switched places with Pigmella, the farmer’s new piglet. The kindly farmer and his wife believe it’s the work of a good witch. The ill-tempered King and Queen blame a bad witch.

Director Lee Hardwicke said: “This is a wonderfully fun and silly story, filled with sing along songs and puppetry. People are encouraged to bring along their picnics to the outdoor venues.

“It’s a great day out for all the family.”

Folksy Theatre was founded in 2009 by now husband and wife team Lee and Tom Hardwicke. The company tour the UK with their productions both indoors and outdoors throughout the year, with a focus on reaching rural communities and making theatre accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds.

The gates open an hour before the start of the performance.
