It's a bumper couple of days of celebration this weekend as processions take to the streets of Weymouth and Dorchester. And with a weekend heatwave expected, there's plenty of reasons to get out and about

*WEYMOUTH & Portland Armed Forces Day celebrations start tomorrow (17).

A display of historic military vehicles will gather at the Weymouth Pavilion forecourt from 10am and will remain on public display until they depart at 12.30pm in convoy along the Weymouth Seafront to Osprey Leisure Centre, Castletown, Portland for the afternoon display.

An afternoon of 1940s inspired entertainment comes to Osprey Leisure Centre from 12pm tomorrow, including vehicle displays and Second World War memorabilia. The popular Decadettes will be singing songs from the era from 2.30pm.

At 11am on Sunday (18), an Open Air service will take place on Weymouth Seafront adjacent to the British Cenotaph. A short service of Remembrance will be followed by a parade of more than 2,000 veterans along Weymouth seafront who will be accompanied by five marching bands.

*MOVIE-THEMED fun comes to the county town on Saturday with Dorchester Carnival.

This year, Brewery Square will play an integral part in proceedings with live music, dance performances and classic movies screened throughout the day on Saturday.

Youngsters from Dorchester Gymnastics Club are also set to wow the crowds with a display in Brewery Square at 3pm.

The main procession will head off from Fairfield Car Park at 5.30pm making its way through the town in the spirit of the silver screen. Following the main event, there will be a silent disco in Brewery Square starting at 7.15pm.

*THE first ever Wool Skate Jam will be held tomorrow (17) at Wool Skate Park.

Registration opens at 1pm and costs £5. There will be prizes for best tricks in each category donated by Borderlines and Big Dreams (Wareham), and The Skate Shop and Maverick Industries (Poole).

What’s more, a filmmaker will be capturing the whole afternoon so it could also be a great chance for riders to showcase their skills.

*A SUMMER series of classical, contemporary and jazz music in the heart of Dorset begins today in the intimate venue of St John's Church (16) with the Plush Festival.

Tonight catch the jazz trio of Hayden Chisholm on saxophone, Kit Downes on piano and Petter Eldh on bass. Tomorrow there will be a poetry reading and talk from David Harsent and a song recital from Mark Padmore. Tickets cost between £5 and £30. Call 020 3286 1885 or see plushfestival.com

*IF you enjoy music from the bandstand, don't miss the Thomas Hardye School Band performing in the Borough Gardens in Dorchester this afternoon from 2pm.

*GET creative at Sandsfoot Castle Gardens in Weymouth tomorrow (17) from 12pm to 4pm with an afternoon of activities as part of Civic Pride Day.
