AN AWARD-WINNING folk group will perform at the next Undercurrent Session at Eype Centre for the Arts.
The Furrow Collective featuring Alasdair Roberts, Lucy Farrell and Rachel Newton Music will be at the arts venue on Saturday August 12.
This year The Furrow Collective won the BBC2 Folk Award Winners 2017 Best Group.
The group is described by MOJO magazine as ‘a mouthwatering collaboration’ and these four fine soloists share a mutual love of traditional songs, from both sides of the English and Scottish borders, with playful, boundary-defying musicianship.
Since their critically acclaimed debut At Our Next Meeting, The Furrow Collective has been in demand as a touring band, gigging throughout Europe and performing BBC live sessions. Hot on the heels of two BBC Folk Award nominations, they released their new album ‘Wild Hog’ on Hudson Records on 4thNovember 2016 to huge critical acclaim.
Each band member leads a song, moving with ease from jaunty stories of ailing horses, to poignant laments and sparsely adorned supernatural ballads.
It promises to be a magical night of folk music by top musicians with a bar stocked with local ales and ciders.
The event is also part of the first Bridport Folk Festival 2017.
This is the second Undercurrent Session to be held at the centre after the successful first session featured Mesadorm.
The sessions are created to showcase the finest up and coming talent in folk, world, roots, alt-pop to take you on an journey beneath the choppy waves of the mainstream into the swirling depths of the audio undercurrent.
Each session includes woven soundscapes from an eclectic group of musicians, each renowned in their field, carefully curated to give you a captivating evening of melodic treasures in a beautiful rural location. There will be refreshments available on the night.
