SECRET BEACHES
CASTLE COVE, WEYMOUTH
This gem of a cove has been the subject of a battle over access rights.
With campaigners celebrating plans to re-establish its access, Castle Cove is worth a closer look.
This sandy, peaceful beach is great for exploring, even out of season, and is dotted with rock pools which are worth a look at low tide.
Overlooking the beach are the majestic ruins of Sandsfoot Castle which are worth a visit. The castle was built by Henry VIII, to defend Portland Harbour. Sandsfoot Gardens also offers excellent vantage points of Portland Harbour.
