A BRIGHT new world is coming to the darkness of rural Dorset this winter.

Brilliance will be performed at West Stafford near Dorchester on Wednesday, December 6 at 7.30pm.

This autumn Farnham Maltings are touring right across the country with their latest theatrical event Brilliance: a celebration of our ability to connect and find the light in a bright new world.

This December the show will visit four rural venues in Dorset through Artsreach, the counties touring arts charity.

1948 and 1963, winter. Everyone is gathering in the village hall. Lightning has struck the hall roof.

Mrs Atkinson has called the repairman, a man who can fix a creaking door and chimneys that smoke, and in he comes with his daughter, bright blue eyes full of brilliance, like an animal in from the woods. Long after its arrival in the city, the slow process of rural electrification is starting to illuminate every corner and crevice of village life. As the dark evenings hold us in, 240 volts of alternating current and the humble electric light bulb allow us to gather and sing long into the night.

Following previous tours with The Iranian Feast and It’s a Wonderful Life, Farnham Maltings return to Dorset with a brand new show made specifically for village halls.

With a feast of live music and song, join the celebrations to greet the light as Brilliance tours Dorset from December 6 to 10.

See it in West Stafford on December 6 (07968 633834), Wootton Fitzpaine on December 7 (01297 560948), Sturminster Marshall on December 8 (01258 857447) and Yetminster on December 10 (01935 873719). Full details and tickets are available from the website artsreach.co.uk
