A WARMING tale for winter is coming to west Dorset.

The Little Match Girl by The Last Baguette theatre company comes to Bridport Arts Centre on Friday, December 22.

London. Christmas Eve. The snow is falling. A little girl struggles fiercely through the cold. We follow her throughout the day as she encounters the funny and zany characters of the vibrant city streets.

In an attempt to stay warm she strikes a match. The flame blazes to life, illuminating fantastic Christmas visions. We meet talking turkeys, dancing rats, Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and their chattering Christmas tree.

In this touching, madcap and heart-warming Christmas show, The Last Baguette use visual story telling, live music and puppetry to shine a light on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic winter tale.

The Last Baguette are company in residence at Pound Arts, Corsham and the theatre they make is entertaining, accessible and eccentric. They have performed in the UK, France, Switzerland and Canada.

This play was written by T. A. Woodsmith, Sunday Times Playwriting Award winner.

The Little Match Girl is a family Christmas show; it tells the story of Alice, a match seller in Victorian London. We meet her in the morning and follow her throughout her day, as she encounters funny and zany characters on the vibrant city streets. When Alice is cold, she strikes a match and the stage transforms. We enter the fantastic world of Alice's imagination, with talking turkeys, dancing rats, and Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's first winter together, along with their chattering Christmas tree. You will laugh, care and maybe cry a little for the tale of this small fierce girl.
