A SPECIAL programme of events is planned for the South Dorset Caledonian Society's 80th anniversary,

The Society has a busy annual calendar of activities which includes Ceilidhs, quizzes, BBQs, outings, a St Andrews Night celebration, and a Lunch Club.

The flagship event is the Burns Dinner Dance which, this year, will be on Saturday January 27 at the Rembrandt Hotel Weymouth, 7pm until Midnight.

This black tie event (kilts optional) is open to both members and non-members. All net proceeds will be going to Julia’s House children’s hospice. For further details, telephone Joan on 07476 237286.

Founded in 1938, the Society has always been community-minded. During the Second World War, it organised regular Big Band dances for the local population and Forces’ personnel stationed in the area. It has continued to support local, national, and Services’ charities since that time.

The Society’s associated group, the Acting Caledonians, puts on a variety show, or murder mystery dinner in the summer, and a Pantomime in December each year.

The Society is probably best known locally for its Scottish Country Dancing classes which it set up and ran for more than 60 years.

These continue to meet, from September to May, on Wednesday evenings at St Edmunds Hall, Lanehouse, Weymouth and on Thursday evenings at Southill Community Centre.

Although now independently managed, members are encouraged to attend these classes if they are able.

The Annual Subscription is only £5. Further details can be obtained by checking the website on southdorsetcaledonians.org or e-mailing the Secretary on sdcssec@gmail.com
