ROBERT Trevino, who is described as, “one of America’s most exciting conductors”, will perform works by Debussy, Mendelssohn and Berlioz in Poole next week.

Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique is an epic for a huge orchestra. Through its five movements, it tells the story of an artist’s self-destructive passion for a beautiful woman. The symphony describes his obsession and dreams, tantrums, visions of suicide and murder, ecstasy and despair.

The Images and Dreams concert begins with Rondes de printemps, the last part of Debussy’s triptych, Images, written between 1905 and 1912.

Joining them to play Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto will be the Dutch violinist, Simone Lamsma. Simone began learning the violin when she was five and moved to the UK six years later to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School.

Images and Dreams is at Lighthouse, on Wednesday, April 11 at 7.30pm. To book, visit BSOlive.com or or call the Lighthouse box office on 01202 280000.
