THERE'S going to be more fun in the sun this weekend with a festival, fun days aplenty and outdoor cinema. Here's our round-up.

*DORSET history will be brought together via a new shuttle bus link between the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival and Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum in Dorchester tomorrow (21).

The festival celebrates this struggle every year through music, debate and a grand procession through the village of Tolpuddle.

Tomorrow, festival-goers will be able to catch a shuttle bus from the festival to the museum. The bus costs £10 and this includes entry to the museum.

The festival begins today and continues until Sunday. It will feature sessions from speakers, live music from performers including Show of Hands' Steve Knightley and a radical film festival. *CATCH British jazz legend Courtney Pine up close and personal as he returns to Dorchester Corn Exchange tonight (20) at 8pm.

This time Courtney will be in the company of UK soul star Omar for the pair’s Black Notes from the Deep project.

In this collaboration Courtney returns to the tenor saxophone for the first time in a decade. The partnership was launched with a sold out concert at London’s Barbican in March 2017 and was followed by a major UK tour dates and an album of the same name. Call Dorchester Arts for tickets.

*THE Spirit of Chickerell’s Picnic in the Park and Annual Show is in Willowbed Hall and on Willowbed Field, Chickerell tomorrow.

The Annual Village Show is in the hall from 12.30pm to 4pm with free admission. Entries include flowers, fruit and vegetables, handicrafts, photos and home baking. Light refreshments available.

There will be live music from 1pm to 8.30pm including Jolly Boys Outing, Peacock Suit and Milk and Two.

There will be charity and craft stalls on the field, plus children’s fairground, licensed bar, burger van and ice cream van. Bring your own picnic and enjoy the music.

*A PERFORMER known as 'the guitarists' guitarist' is coming to Dorchester.

John Mills is returning to the county town and will perform at Dorchester Corn Exchange with the Archaeus String Quartet on Sunday, July 22.

He will play Vivaldi, Cherubini, Ravel and Argentinian guitar masters at 3pm.

John is the only remaining pupil of one of the greatest guitar players of the 20th century, Segovia, to be performing in public. For many he is ‘the guitarists’ guitarist’.

The Archaeus quartet have a 27 year history of appearing at prestige venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room, and recording the music of interesting, yet often neglected composers such as Leonard Salzedo, York Bowen, Cyril Scott and Ethel Smyth.

*A FUN night of music, entertainment, food and drink will be held at Weymouth Sea Life's Conservation Evening tonight from 6pm to 9pm.

There will be competitions and games, raffles and prizes and all proceeds will go to charities. Members of the Shark Trust, Dorset Wildlife Trust and the SEA LIFE Trust will be there to show off their projects.

*HAWKWIND, one of the earliest space rock groups, are performing at Weymouth Pavilion tomorrow from 8.30pm.

They will be playing a selection of classics taken from their five decade career. A support act will take to the stage at 7.30pm. Call the pavilion box office for tickets.

*A NOVELTY Dog Show, organised by Wessex Dog Training, is being held at 14 High Street, Winfrith Newburgh tomorrow (21) from 12pm.

There will also be a barbecue on the green, stalls, donkey rides, face painting and family fun in aid of St Christopher's Church renovation. Admission is free.

*POPCORN at the ready for free open air cinema at Maumbury Rings in Dorchester tomorrow.

The Lion King will be screened at 3pm followed by an interval of live music and then followed on by box office smash hit The Greatest Showman singalong version at 6pm.

*HEAD to Sculpture by the Lakes at Pallington Lakes near Dorchester for another Plein Air Painting Festival.

This is a chance to watch some of the best Dorset artists working in the open air. Visitors to the park will be able to watch the artists paint, ask questions and buy any of the art work from the day. Admission is £10 per adult.
