SOUTH West Artwork are once again making an exhibition of themselves – this time at Café 127 in Weymouth.
Since 2006, co-founders Ed Jones and Laura Mulhern have been successfully curating contemporary artwork in rather unusual spaces including a de-consecrated church on Portland and the Water Pump Museum in Sutton Poyntz.
With each exhibition they did, they began to notice that the event attracted a great deal of unique footfall to the venue.
Those that came to see the space found the artwork a pleasant bonus and vice versa.
This inspired them to work more with businesses such as Café 127 at Lodmoor Hill.
Ed said: “Exhibiting new and exciting work in different surroundings utilises a venue to its best. In these uncertain economic times it makes sense for businesses and organisations to work together.”
This is mirrored with SWA’s recent sponsorship deal with local printers Low Cost Quality Print.
Laura said: “We’re delighted that a local business has come on board as our sponsor. We’re very excited as this is a great opportunity to get the very best quality promotional material out, plus it’s an added benefit for all artists on our books.”
South West Artwork is a non-profit organisation that helps promote recent graduates as well as emerging and established fine artists and their work via exhibitions, workshops and online sales.
Café 127 is open from 9am-4pm Monday to Saturday, serving home-made fresh food and drink.
The exhibition will run until June 30 and includes the Dorchester Arts Open 2010 winning image by photographer Nigel Lord as well as other contemporary artists and designers.
