HELPING Artsreach celebrate 20 years of rural arts provision throughout Dorset, The Destroyers return to the county on bank holiday Sunday, August 29.
The Destroyers are a 15-strong, dazzling collective of talented and innovative multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and composers and are back by popular demand following two sell-out shows last summer.
This time, you can catch them at the Sturminster Newton Exchange.
Turning music on its head, these festival favourites have taken Europe’s insatiable appetite for all things Balkan and Klezmer, ripped the clichés apart, and developed their own brand of Gypsy folk with a gothic turbocharge.
With massed ranks of fiddles, brass, vocals, beat poetry and much more besides, their blazing passion onstage creates a swirling spectacle of sensation and sound which in the last few years they have brought to London’s Barbican and festivals including Glastonbury, Sidmouth and more locally, the Larmer Tree.
With a wide age range of band members, The Destroyers’ music is appealing to all walks of life.
A band spokesman said: “We stimulate minds with plenty of musical intricacy and intriguing smatterings of subject matters most bands don’t sing about.
“We’ve collaborated with samba bands, rappers, dhol groups, gamelan ensembles and educational projects and we’ve written and performed scores for silent movies and staged a musical about a magic bird of peace.
“We’ve uplifted the spirits of the populace at large, and it ain’t over yet!”
Don’t miss this chance to experience the highly memorable, mad musical journey that is a Destroyers gig on Sunday, August 29 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 plus concessions and family rates from 01258 475137.
