WHAT: Brave the crisp, cold weather and explore this town centre nature reserve.

OPEN: The reserve is open all day and the visitor centre is open daily 9am to 5pm, 4pm in winter. The hide is open 8.30am to 4.30pm.
COST: Free to walk round.
FACILITIES: Pay and display carparking and public toilets at the reserve entrance. The reserve has wide, firm paths making it accessible for the disabled and pushchairs. There is also a viewing shelter and a hide, both accessible to wheelchairs. Refreshments, bird food and gifts are available in the visitor centre.
DETAILS: A favourite haunt of Springwatch presented Chris Packham, this is a wonderful place to spot wild birds and mammals, including otters and water voles if you are lucky. At this time of year, star bird species include bitterns, bearded tits, marsh harriers and little egrets. On February 12 the reserve is hosting a ‘build a nestbox’ day.
