HALF-TERM is going to be a real cracker if Artsreach has anything to do with it.
The Dorchester-based arts charity has arranged for two great puppet shows to tour the county bringing mirth and magic to all.
Internationally renowned puppet company Pickled is bringing Travels with Granddad to four venues next week.
Granddad, an eccentric traveller and storyteller extraordinaire, invites us into his battered Bedouin tent to hear magical tales of his adventures in real and imaginary worlds.
The Clock That Stopped Time, The Violin Princess and The Most Beautiful Thing in The World are brand new old fashioned fairy tales crafted by Toby Hulse from the imaginations of the children of Bristol, where Pickled Image are based.
Evocative sound, light and exquisite puppetry create a classic performance to delight the whole family – and after the show, audiences can create a story based on the bizarre objects in Granddad’s tent.
Travels with Granddad is at PiddleValley School, Piddletrenthide on February 12 (3pm, call 01300 345252) and Sturminster Marshall Memorial Hall the next day at 3.30pm (call 01202 650213).
There are also performances at Nether Compton village hall on February 15 (3.30pm, call 01935 817993) and Powerstock Hut on February 17 (3:30pm, call 01308 485205).
Angel Heart Theatre, who are regular visitors to Dorset, have thrilled audiences across the Artsreach circuit with a wide range of children’s shows.
They are returning with the ever-popular Voyage of the Nutjellynana.
Alice, Melby and Fidge are three cuddly toys long since loved and now forgotten in an old attic. Life looks like it’s lost its stuffing until Fidge has a banana-brained plan to build a rocket ship and boldly go where no toy has gone before.
Catch it at Thorncombe village hall on February 15 (3:30pm, call 01460 30994) and twice on February 16 at Hazelbury Bryan village hall (10:30am, call 01258 817805) and Thornford village hall at 4pm (call 01935 872503).
