YOU are being invited to expand your repertoire either on stage or behind the scenes by Weymouth Operatic Society.
The award-winning group of amateur performers are looking for new members and holding an open evening and workshop on February 23.
Over the years the society has performed everything from Oliver!, Anything Goes and Oklahoma to Chess, Fame Forever and concerts of four-part harmonies.
The society’s secretary Judie Sheldon said: “The idea of the evening is to open the society to the public and get people to come along and see what we are about.
“People think we just sing opera but in fact we rarely do these days. We stick to musicals and concerts instead.”
The open evening, which takes place in Hope Church in Trinity Street, Weymouth, will be led by performer Martine Burt who also works with WOW Youth Musical Theatre.
Martine said: “Enthusiasm is more important than vocal, movement and acting ability as these tend to improve with practice and confidence. The evening will be all about fun and as long as you are over 15, come and have a play and enjoy a glass of wine or cuppa with us and find out more.”
Members of the society will also be on hand throughout the evening to perform excerpts from the hit stage musical hairspray.
Judie said: “We are also looking for more men to join because like most societies, we have a shortage.”
The workshop and open evening on February 23 starts at 7.30pm. Call 01305 812268 for more details or check out weymouthoperatic.org.uk
