12:00pm Friday 10th February 2012 in Stage By Ruth Meech
IT IS half-term week, which means there are plenty of lovely events lined up to keep all the family entertained and occupied.
Tomorrow sees the first outing for the delightful family show Travels with Granddad.
Performed by theatre company Pickled Image, it is a collection of delightful fairy tales that span the world, told with evocative sound, light and exquisite puppetry.
You can see it at Piddle Valley School, Piddletrenthide tomorrow (3pm, call 01300 345252 for tickets and full details), Sturminster Marshall Memorial hall on February 13 (3.30pm, call 01258 857814), Nether Compton village hall near Sherborne on February 15 (3.30pm, call 01935 817993) and Powerstock Hut near Bridport on February 17 at 3.30pm (call 01308 485205).
You can also get creative at Dorchester Arts Centre this week when Niki McCretton and Marc Parrett from Stuff and Nonsense puppet theatre run a puppet-making workshop on February 17 between 10am and 3pm. Dress for mess and pack a lunch.
Stuff and Nonsense will be back at the venue on February 18 to perform Muttnik – The First Dog in Space at 11am and 2pm. This is a wonderful story based on the true-life tale of Laika, the first dog in space.
Tickets for Friday’s workshop are £20 (£23 to include a performance of Muttnik) and tickets for Muttnik alone at £7 plus concessions. Call 01305 266926 for both events.
All aboard, as Angel Heart Theatre invites you to join in The Voyage of the Nutjellynana.
Three old toys lie abandoned in an attic – until one of them sets upon the idea of a trip into space for all sorts of extra-terrestrial adventures.
This is a fabulous family show aimed at youngsters aged four and over.
You can catch it at Thorncombe village hall on February 15 (3.30pm, call 01460 30994) and on February 16 at Hazelbury Bryan village hall near Blandford at 10.30am (call 01258 818056) and at Thornford village hall near Sherborne at 4pm (call 01935 872503).
• TO GET ahead you need to get a hat and there will be ample opportunity to do both at a mad hatter’s Tea party at Dorset County Museum in Dorchester on February 15.
The fun event runs from 10.30am until noon and costs £3 a child. All children must be accompanied – call 01305 756827 for full details.
