1:00pm Friday 10th February 2012 in Stage By Ruth Meech
A PLANE has crashed on an uninhabited island. The only survivors are a group of school boys. There are no homes or schools, no adults, no rules and before long the boys’ fragile sense of order begins to collapse.
With the discovery of ‘the beast’, their games take on a more sinister significance and this once well-behaved group of children quickly turns into a bloodthirsty, murderous tribe. Lord of the Flies is at Lighthouse in Poole today at 7.30pm.
Performed by highly acclaimed Sell a Door Theatre on a minimal set staged to look like a school gym, this promises to be a slice of thought-provoking, high quality theatre.
Call Lighthouse on 0844 406 8666 for bookings and full details.
Lighthouse is also the venue for a week-long puppet festival which starts tomorrow and has events and activities for all ages including shows, workshops and a grown-ups’ cabaret.
The BSO is also on stage at Lighthouse tonight with a celebration of the music of Rogers and Hammerstein. One Enchanted Evening starts at 7.30pm.
Wey Valley School is staging Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at Weymouth Pavilion today at 7.30pm.
The lead role has been taken by Adrian Bevan, who is also a member of WOW Youth Musical Theatre, and the show is a non-stop extravaganza of charismatic performing with an evocative set and great costuming.
Call the Pavilion box office on 01305 783225 for bookings and full details.
As it is half-term week, several excellent puppet companies are coming to Dorset over the next few days with their family shows. Full details can be found on today’s family page.
