Two castles for the price of one
FOR two days only English Heritage is unlocking the gates between Sherborne Old Castle and Sherborne new' Castle. Normally operated as two separate sites, visitors can enjoy the unique opportunity to explore the romantic ruins of the old castle and admire the stunning interiors and collections of the new' castle, all for just one admission charge.
Visitors are invited to learn about the rich history of the two remarkable buildings.
Follow in Sir Walter Raleigh's footsteps and fall in love with the original 12th century old castle, then take a stroll across to the new' castle which he built as a luxury home in 1594 on the site's deer park.
The open days take place on Sunday and Monday, May 4 and 5 between 11am and 4.30pm. Admission costs £2.50 plus concessions (English Heritage members free). For full details call 01935 812730.
