Popular Peter is busier than ever
JUSTLY FAMOUS: Peter Sallis, familiar to television viewers who follow Last of the Summer Wine, is also the voice of Wallace
JUSTLY FAMOUS: Peter Sallis, familiar to television viewers who follow Last of the Summer Wine, is also the voice of Wallace

THERE is a chance to meet Norman Clegg from the popular long-running TV series Last Of The Summer Wine when the celebrated British character actor Peter Sallis takes to the stage at the Regent in Christchurch this month.

Peter Sallis is also justly famous as the voice of Wallace in Aardman Animations' Wallace & Gromit feature films, including the BAFTA-winning movie, Wallace & Gromit - The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit.

However, there is far more to Peter Sallis then these most recent accolades on his CV.

He first took to the London stage way back in 1946 and over the years he has appeared with a galaxy of British stars of stage and screen: Ralph Richardson, Celia Johnson, Edith Evans, Vivien Leigh, Laurence Olivier, Judi Dench, Honor Blackman, Nicol Williamson and John Gielgud to name but a few.

Peter's film credits range from the comedy of Doctor In Love via the thrills of The Curse Of The Werewolf, the spills of Taste The Blood Of Dracula to classics like Saturday Night And Sunday Morning and Witness For The Prosecution.

Today, Peter is still as busy as ever.

The latest series of Last of the Summer Wine has just finished shooting and he has also been filming with John Malkovich in the new movie, Colour Me Kubrick.

The title of Peter Sallis's new autobiography is Fading Into The Limelight. Nobody believes Peter will ever do that - he's too busy!

In An Audience With Peter Sallis, he will be interviewed about his life and times by journalist and TV presenter Samantha Norman - daughter of film critic Barry Norman. He will then take a question and answer session with his audience.

Peter Sallis is at the Regent in Christchurch on Saturday, May 10 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £15 plus concessions, available from the box office on 01202 499199.
