Exploring the art of politics
Held to Account: A sample from the power politics in art and fashion' exhibition at the Bridport Arts Centre
Held to Account: A sample from the power politics in art and fashion' exhibition at the Bridport Arts Centre

ART, photography, fashion and high street retail are combined for an exhibition at Bridport Arts Centre exploring the uses and abuses of political power.

Acerbic splodges, paint dripping with barbs, and marks made with boot heel and fist are among the points of reference in the compilation of drawings by Ralph Steadman and Judith Gait, which form part of Held to Account.

Also showing in the exhibition are the photographs of award winning photo journalists Raphael Shultzer-Weissmann and Carlos Guarito which explore the depth of patriotism and the limits of the phrase My Country Right or Wrong'.

The charity Reprieve, founded by Clive Stafford Smith OBE, has made its presence felt through defending human rights and preventing wrongful imprisonment and has represented the legal rights of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay.

This exhibition highlights a new campaign backed by the high street retail names of Agent Provocateur and Lush Cosmetics and provides an insight into the reasons why high street retailers became involved in controversial political decisions.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, May 10 to Saturday, June 7 and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.

Artist Judith Gait will be there to speak about her work on Saturday, May 10, from 2.30pm to 3.15pm.
