IF you fancy a traditional day out this weekend, the annual Upwey Well Dressing is now on view at Upwey Wishing Well near Weymouth.

The theme this year is the Bronze and Iron Age and once again the community has got together to produce stunning images of Maiden Castle and Stonehenge from moss, leaves, flowers, seeds and tree bark.

The dressing of springs and wells is an ancient custom carried out in several places in the country as a celebration of the supply of pure water. Fundraising for charity is an important aspect of well dressing and this year in Upwey it is to help improve wheelchair access for the disabled to the Old School Village Hall.

The Well Dressing is expected to last throughout May.

Dorset Chamber Orchestra will be performing their early summer recital in Dorchester tomorrow night.

The prestigious ensemble will play Schubert's Symphony 5 and Mahler's Symphony 4 with a soprano solo by Sophia Grech.

The concert is in St Mary's Church, Edward Road at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 in advance from Harmony Music, Trinity Street, Dorchester and at the door on the night.
