THERE are some great family events being laid on this weekend and with the weather set fair, you have got no excuse for not making the most of what West Dorset has to offer.

One of the biggest events is Sailfest, an open invitation to families to try out a wide range of activities left as a legacy of last year’s Olympic Games.

From today until Monday, more than 600 sports activity sessions will be available for just a nominal booking fee. The activities include windsurfing, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, sailing and more. Visit sailracer.org/eventsites for full details and pricings.

There will also be a sailing regatta taking place from tomorrow until Monday, with the National Sailing Academy site completely open to visitors throughout the weekend with tracked racing, as at the Olympics, and commentary on shore.

Tomorrow sees the Anonymous Family Festival return to Maumbury Rings in Dorchester for a free day of music, extreme sports, open mic fun and much more. There is something for everyone, and hopefully a few surprises and opportunities that you hadn't thought of.

The music and performances lined up, shows just what wealth of local talent is out there and the event includes a DJ tent, acoustic cafe and performances a-plenty, plus the chance to try your hand at various circus skills and activities.

The day runs from 11am until 9pm in the historic Maumbury Rings opposite Dorchester skatepark.

Affection and togetherness is the key when Dorchester also hosts its annual Love Parade this coming Sunday.

The parade leaves from the Town Pump at 12.30pm on Sunday and there’s then music, comedy and kids entertainment at Maumbury Rings until 9pm with an after party till late at Cafe Jagos.
