I went to the meeting held at Dorchester Town Football Club by Dorset HealthCare and NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group who were explaining how the new Dorset Community Pain Service will work.

Being a long term patient of the old Chronic Pain Clinic I was most interested to know what we are to expect from this new service and I was very impressed with the positive attitude from Mrs Meherzin Das who is the clinical lead for the Dorset Pain Management Unit. Mrs Das and her associates explained the way forward with really convincing enthusiasm and quite infectious optimism. The meeting was a very successful mixture of information and discussion. Questions were invited and most satisfactorily answered. It is going to be an immense undertaking to get this new system up and running.

When the passengers on The Titanic saw the iceberg it was too late to avoid it – it takes a long time to change the direction of a big ship. I think it will take a long time to alter the workings of The Pain Clinic but I am sure that with the dynamic Mrs Das in control it will be achieved, so I feel that we, (the patients), must be patient and give it time to develop into the super service I think it will become.
