WITH the Christmas holidays fast approaching perhaps it’s time we reflected on the reasons for them.

Christmas is a Christian festival, whether you believe in Christ, Christianity or not, hopefully we do have some love for our fellow man, Christianity is based on love and respect but this respect on the Bridport Road is sadly missing by some.

Last evening I spent a lovely time with friends celebrating our friendships over many years over a meal, returning rather late for me around 11pm only to find one of the tops of our pillars had been prised off its foundations. It must have taken a great deal of thought and effort to do this, such a shame these same energies couldn’t have been channelled into something more useful.

The bus shelter further up the road has had similar visitations, leaving the bottom glass screen broken, and considering young children use this facility they could injure themselves with cut glass -not exactly an intelligent move.

Someone has to pay for the damage these “children” do in the name of just for a laugh, under the influence of alcohol or drugs etc, why should it always be the rate payer, tax payer, why not report the perpetrator of these crimes, crimes which are always done under the cover of darkness, such cowardly acts. One wonder if and when these children grow up what sort of citizens they will make.

We are now in our seventies and even in our youth did not damage other people’s property with our youthful antics so why are the young doing this now, this is not the first time we have been targeted, so who ever you are knock on the door first let us know what you plan and we will do something about it, old though we are.

We have to repair your damage in time for next years garden opening, something we do for charity, a Christian thing trying to help others, so for the new year please think about turning over a new leaf and amend your childish ways before this behaviour gets out of hand.

Wishing you and your readers the seasons greetings.
