A series of testing quizzes organised by the Poundbury Rotary Club has raised hundreds for a wide range of charitable activities and needs in the area.

Recently a cheque was presented to the Dorchester Opportunity Group, which is dedicated to helping toddlers with disabilities and additional needs.

Running for nearly 25 years the group have been helping to give young children by giving them a safe and stimulating setting where they can play and learn. Last year they helped 35 children in west Dorset, and delivered 6,697 hours of support.

The Rotary club has also been helping with the provision of water to villages in Nepal.

The club have added another target for the coming year by supporting other Rotary clubs to deliver an IT laboratory/library for the students and staff at Kiriani DEB Primary School, Chogoria Ward, Tharaka-Nithi County, Kenya.

The work involves a lot of preparation including repairing the floor, installing a new ceiling, improving security as well as replacing wooden windows and much more.

Three clubs including Poundbury are raising the finds and already have a grant from the Rotary Foundation.

Poundbury Rotary Club will be running a quiz night on Friday, January 26 at the Brownsword Hall.
