In 2016 over 11,000 men in the UK died of prostate cancer and the death rate continues to rise.

Next month, many thousands of people right across the country will be “Marching for Men”, walking together to raise the funds needed to stop prostate cancer being a killer.

As part of this nationwide effort, the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club are organising a march along Weymouth seafront on Sunday, June 17; Father’s Day, to support the effort to raise the £120 million needed to create the better testing and treatments that will halve prostate cancer deaths by 2026.

The Lions club are in fact looking into organising testing later this year. Information about this should be available at the walk.

Details of the walk can be found on the club’s website at weymouthlionsclub.co.uk/march-for-men-a-family-event/ or via a link on its facebook page.

It will be a family march; entry will be just £5 to help pay for the event (children just £1) plus £5 for a Prostate Cancer t-shirt if you register on-line before June 3.

Participants will be asked to also raise their own sponsorship, which the club is happy to collect and pass on to the charity on behalf of everybody.

This will be a fun, healthy and very worthwhile way of starting Father’s day – the march will begin at 9.45am, preceded by a gentle warm-up at 9.30am with Gina from Healthy Heart Hartley.

Marchers will have plenty of time for a pleasant morning walk along the seafront to the Pier Bandstand, Sea Life or Bowleaze Coveway, and back, before returning home for their Father’s Day lunch.

Please come along and support this very worthwhile good cause, which may very well help to save the life of someone you love.
