I REFER to the article ‘Nursing home told to buck up its act’, Echo, February 1.
My mother who is 94 has been a resident at Chestnut House since June 2011 and I am writing to lend my support to the wonderful caring staff who minister to her needs on a daily basis.
Mum needs 24-hour nursing care and this is provided in a caring and consistently cheerful and loving way.
I visit daily at all times of the day and evening, completely unannounced, and I have never seen any behaviour which has made me feel uneasy or anxious about Mum’s care.
All the staff are friendly and their care is exemplary.
Mum is always spotlessly clean, as is her room, her hair nicely done and the laundry of her clothes and bed linen regularly carried out.
Her door is always open and the staff go in and out to check that she is comfortable.
She interacts with them in a lovely way with a beaming smile and a hand held out for a kiss.
My siblings and I are completely confident that she is getting the best care to be had in the Dorchester area.
Any implied or stated criticism of the nursing staff is completely unjustified and I cannot say more than if in later life I have to be admitted to a nursing home, I hope it is to Chestnut House.
