Most of the correspondence you receive regarding services to the public in Weymouth appear to be letters of complaint.

I am pleased to offer a different viewpoint – at least on two matters.

1. People complained when the Tourist Information Centre was moved from its central position on the Esplanade to The Pavilion. And I agreed with them.

However, when you make the effort to go to the Pavilion with a query, you find plenty of free parking right outside the door – providing you don’t stay more that 30 minutes.

Inside, you find the nicest and most helpful staff imaginable. This morning they made some travel bookings for me, not in Weymouth, as you might imagine, but in Devon.

2. Last week our daughter was visiting us from Yorkshire and, for the first time, she and my wife made use of the Park and Ride. They found it convenient and very economical. £1.50 to park all day and to be transported into the centre of town and back (and I gather the £1.50 covers all the passengers in your car) – can’t be bad!

When I pointed out The Echo investigation on the Park and Ride, and the report that very few users were seen to disembark at The Pavilion, to my wife, her response was ‘I didn’t know it went to The Pavilion. Everyone on the bus we were in got off at the rear of Marks & Spencers’.

Having said that, it is hoped that more people will get into the habit of using this very good facility.
